AARP alum to run White House aging conference [LifeHealthPro](LifeHealthPro Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Obama administration has named Nora Super to be executive director of the 2015 White House Conference on Aging. Super will have a chance to shape debate about retirement income planning and post-retirement health care issues, including long-term care (LTC) planning issues. Super has been public affairs director at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology -- part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) -- since 2011. Before that, from March 2009 through September 2011, Super was director for health and long-term care at AARP. Super was AARP's chief lobbyist while Congress was debating the legislation that created the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Critics of PPACA have noted that, in 2009, she wrote in an e-mail to a White House staffer that AARP was getting many calls critical of health reform efforts. In 2007, Super was the contact person when Dr. Byron Thames, an AARP board member, testified before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Medicare physician payment reform. Super also has been the government relations director at Kaiser Permanente. Early in her career, she worked for the Employee Benefit Research Institute. She has a bachelor's degree from Tulane University and a master's degree in public administration from George Washington University.
