UBOS gets new board [New Vision (Uganda)]


(New Vision (Uganda) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) By Pascal Kwesiga  A new board of directors for Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has been inaugurated.

The members of the new board that will serve for three years took oaths of office and secrecy before magistrate Olive Kazaarwe, at UBOS offices in Kampala on Friday.

The new board comprised of seven members will be chaired by, Dr. Robinson Kibuuka.

Other members include; Adam Mugume, a research director at Bank of Uganda, Ruth Binyinzika Musoke, one of the program directors at Private Sector Foundation Uganda, Norah K. Wandera, a human resource manager at National Planning Authority, Dr. Albert Musisi, a commissioner in finance ministry, Agnes Ssekiboobo, a director at the school of statistics and planning at Makerere University and Ben Paul Mungyereza, the UBOS executive director.



The outgoing board of directors was chaired by Dr. Eria Muwonge Zaake. Other members included; Dr. David Kihangire, from Bank of Uganda, John Musinguzi, from the private sector, Mungyereza, Ssekiboobo, John B. Male Mukasa and Maris Wanyera.

The state minister for finance, Matia Kasaija, asked the new board to conduct the forthcoming national population and housing census well to provide the country will reliable data for planning. The census night is slated for August 27 and 28.


He also asked them to utilize the sh90b allocated for the nationwide exercise that would have been carried out in 20112 well.

"It has not been easy to get the money and you are aware the exercise was postponed twice because of inadequate funds," Kasaija said. "Some people said people will not die because they have not been counted and I told them they will die because we cannot plan for them if we do not know their number," Kibuuka observed that he was beginning his new assignment as board chairman at a period of "great transition" – national population and housing census. "We shall do our best to make the exercise successful. We shall steer UBOS to greater heights," he said.

Zaake hailed his team for having exhibited "professionalism and steered UBOS to greater heights" during their three year tenure.
