'Superfast' is spreading out [Derby Evening Telegraph (England)]

(Derby Evening Telegraph (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ALMOST 6,000 homes and businesses in Derbyshire now have access to "superfast" broadband thanks to a Gover nment-backed scheme. Latest figures show that 5,743 properties in the county now have access to the fibre-optic technology, which gives reliable internet connection and fast download speeds.

Nationally, more than one million homes and business now have access to superfast broadband as part of the Government's Superfast Britain programme, which is costing Pounds 1.7 billion.

The scheme is scheduled to reach 95% of UK properties by 2017. Attention is now turning to the final 5%, which comprises homes and businesses in more remote, rural areas.
