CVB board tours Youth Camp [Independent Herald, Pineville, W.Va. :: ](Independent Herald (Pineville, WV) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 06--The Wyoming County Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors toured the Youth Camp at Glen Fork last Tuesday. The board toured the site and held its meeting in the dining hall. County Commission President Jason Mullens said getting a roof on to the hall, the largest building at the site, is the most critical issue. "If you don't get a roof (on the building), nothing else matters," he commented. The CVB has been asked to contribute funds for the building's roof. Overall upgrades, including paint and repairs, are needed, according to Mullins. "We'd like to see more family reunions and more campers," he said. The facility has cabins and a swimming pool and is isolated enough to eliminate cell phone use. "We want to do some marketing (to increase use)," said Mullins. Roof replacement would cost an estimated $15,000 to $20,000. Dale Stewart, president of the CVB board, said a CVB contribution might be used to draw matching donations from businesses and other agencies to get the money needed. Mullins said he is hoping the camp will break even this year. "There are so many things that need to be done in the next 10 years," he remarked. It is used by the Wyoming County 4-H and also by groups from surrounding counties. An NCCC team could be brought in to provide labor for some of the work needed, it was suggested. Other business: Board Secretary Dvon Duncan said a list of sites should be developed where signage could be placed along the Guyandotte Scenic Drive. No date has been slated yet for the Mullens 5K Run. It was originally scheduled for May but was postponed because there was a charitable event being held on the same day. The next race in the Coal Heritage Series will be held in Pineville on Aug. 23. The Twin Falls run is set for Oct. 12. Vicky Clay has been named the town of Pineville's representative on the CVB board. The board approved a $1,500 contribution for the annual Wyoming County Labor Day Festival, which will be held in Pineville Aug. 29 to Sept. 1. The Rahall Transporation Institute will host a meeting on a proposed Guyandotte Water Trail on Aug. 18 at Twin Falls at 5 p.m. The next CVB board meeting will be held on Aug. 19 at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College at 5:30 p.m. ___ (c)2014 the Independent Herald (Pineville, W.Va.)
