NETGEAR Powers World's First Commercially Deployed 802.11ac DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Gateway Launch for Telstra

SYDNEY & SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTGR) (www.netgear.com), a global networking company that delivers innovative products to service providers, consumers, and businesses, and Telstra (News - Alert) (ASX:TLS), Australia's largest telecommunications company (www.telstra.com.au), have deployed the NETGEAR DOCSIS® 3.0 AC1900 Cable Data Gateway (News - Alert) (C6300BD) for the new Telstra Gateway Max™. This is the world's first commercial deployment of a cable gateway that provides customers up to three times faster WiFi (News - Alert) speeds on their home networks. The new Telstra Gateway Max™ service achieves this leadership performance by combining powerful DOCSIS 3.0 capabilities with next-generation dual-band AC1900 WiFi (600+1300 Mbps*).

The C6300BD offers Telstra Gateway Max customers faster WiFi speeds to devices connected to their home network, including smartphones and tablets, as well as their wired devices such as gaming systems. Instead of broadcasting a WiFi signal to a wide area, NETGEAR's Beamforming+ technology focuses the router's WiFi signal directly to each device, thus creating a stronger, faster and more reliable wireless connection. This provides Telstra customers faster WiFi connections in and around their home. NETGEAR's technology also includes implicit Beamforming, which enables the technology to be supported on older devices that don't have Beamforming capabilities built in.

"Service providers are adopting new strategies to deliver products that meet customer needs for speedy and reliable in-home coverage," said Sridhar Gollapudi, vice president of product marketing for the NETGEAR Service Provider Business Unit. "To meet that goal, NETGEAR is pleased to team with Telstra to offer the first 802.11ac 1900 Mbps cable gateway available in the world. The C6300BD puts Telstra customers in the WiFi fast lane and lets them do more with the connected devices in their home."

The C6300BD utilizes high power amplifiers and an advanced antennae design to offer superior extended WiFi coverage. An integrated 4-port Gigabit Ethernet switch and USB 2.0 ports provide enhanced data networking capabilities. In addition to multi-channel DOCSIS 3.0 bonding, the NETGEAR C6300BD has an additional Gigabit Ethernet WAN connectivity port for flexible WAN connectivity options.

"With more customers relying on WiFi to connect up portable devices like laptops, smartphones and tablets to the internet, WiFi quality has never been so important," said Telstra Director of Connected Home, lan Crouch. "The world's first Telstra Gateway Max puts our customers at the forefront of in-home WiFi technology and gives improved broadband reach and quality throughout the home with the introduction of the latest 'AC' WiFi standard and ultra-fast 1900 Mbps WiFi speeds. These gateways are the first in a range that will be compatible with the Telstra WiFi Network. If you have one of these new gateways you'll be able to update the software next year to join the Telstra WiFi community."

The C6300BD offers easy one-step, secure installation at the push-of-a-button with Push 'N' Connect and WPS. The advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features enable subscribers to experience smoother streaming of HD videos, movies and music; more responsive online gaming; and faster file downloads, with the best wireless coverage possible today.
