PRIUM Executives to Speak on Pain and Pharmacy Management at Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation 2014 Annual Education Conference

PRIUM's President Michael Gavin and Senior Vice President Mark Pew will discuss pain and pharmacy management at the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation 2014 Annual Education Conference. The conference will be held August 25 through 27 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hotel.

Pew (News - Alert) will present "The Best Practices for Opioid Management" from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. on Aug 26. The session covers how and when opioids and other prescription drugs should be used, identifying signs of misuse, and considerations when attempting discontinuing polypharmacy regimens. Presented by the State Board of Workers' Compensation Medical Committee, the session offers a one-hour continuing education credit and will be held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, adjacen to the Hyatt Regency. At 11:00 a.m. that morning, Gavin will moderate "Home Alone: Pain Management vs. Pharmaceutical Management," examining pharmacy data trends, claims management tactics, and leveraging utilization review and PBM data. PRIUM's Pew will participate in the panel discussion along with Kathleen Allen-Leonard of Phoenix Aviation Managers, Inc., Victor A. Chin, MD with the Physicians' Spine and Rehabilitation Specialists of Georgia, PC, and Scott Phillips, PharmD, MBA, MSCR with HealthCare Solutions. Panelists will also suggest ways to improve adjuster-physician communication, best use independent medical exams and to assess the quality of a pain management programs.
