The campaign encourages consumers to adopt environmentally-friendly lifestyles at their homes and workplaces by setting their air conditioning to 24°C, which is the optimal temperature for the human body.

While such a move would help safeguard the environment by reducing power consumption and also carbon dioxide emissions, it would also enable commercial consumers to achieve sustainable financial savings, especially as air conditioning consumes a large percentage of energy in commercial properties.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. "This enables us to sustain our natural resources, for generations to come." "DEWA's awareness campaigns have achieved remarkable results," Al Tayer added. "Between 2009 and 2013, we managed to reduce electricity consumption to about 1,012 GW/h of electricity, and 4.9bn gallons of water, eliminating the release of 466,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This helped save about AED 622mn." Commenting on the significance of such initiatives, Khawla Al Mehairi, VP, marketing & corporate communications at DEWA, said: "These awareness campaigns underpin DEWA's social responsibility and its keenness to promote environmental awareness among all segments of society." "We aim to instil a culture of rational consumption of resources among all members of society and achieve actual savings in consumption rates to support the sustainable development of Dubai," Al Mehairi said. "The Set your AC to 24°C campaign has been extended to the commercial sector after the success of last year's campaign, which was just focused on to the residential sector."   (c) 2014 ITP Business Publishing Ltd.
