School of Computer Science & Mathematics Introduces New Mobile App Development and Networking MOOCs

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Aug. 15 -- Marist College issued the following news release: Marist College is again offering free open online computer science courses after the success of last year's inaugural "Introduction to Enterprise Computing" MOOC (massive open online course).


Click here (https://mooc.marist.edu/web/ecc) to register for "Mobile Application Development" and "Software Defined Networking" The latest series of courses includes "Mobile Application Development" utilizing IBM Worklight, which is now open for registration and will run through September 15. The course will enable students to develop an understanding of the opportunities and challenges of deploying mobile solutions. It will provide students with the opportunity to explore the various components of the IBM Worklight platform. The instructor for this course is Matthew Johnson, senior professional lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, with expertise in Unix/Linux Operating systems, web programming, and computer graphics. Johnson holds a B.A. in mathematics and an M.S. in computer science from the SUNY New Paltz.

Also on offer is "Software Defined Networking," which runs from September 15 through November 15. This course focuses on software defined network - am emerging, dynamic, and adaptable architecture that decouples the control plane from the data plane of a traditional network. This course will cover an introduction to SDN, open standards, the OpenFlow protocol, controller platforms, network functions virtualization (NFV), and various use cases where traditional networking might not be the best solution. All facets will be pulled together at the end of the course within an SDN-enabled infrastructure.

The course instructor is Robert Cannistra, senior professional lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics. Cannistra holds an M.S. in computer science/information systems from Marist, a B.S. in computer science from SUNY Brockport, and an A.S. in liberal arts and science from Dutchess Community College, as well as several industry technical certifications including CCAI-CCNA, CCAI-Security, CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CCDP, CCSP, CSE, MCSE, and CLP.
