AT&T adds Hutch data network [The Hutchinson News, Kan. :: ]
(Hutchinson News, The (KS) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 17--AT&T has turned on its 4G LTE data service network in Hutchinson, the company announced Wednesday, bringing local customers the latest generation of wireless network technology.
The network upgrades promise faster speeds for mobile Internet technologies and higher reliability.
"Customers can stream, download, upload and game faster than ever before on 4G LTE-compatible smartphones, tablets and devices," said Chris Lester, senior public relations manager in the Greater Midwest Region.
Hutchinson joins the Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka, Manhattan and Lawrence markets in Kansas in offering AT&T's 4G LTE service. Its coverage includes 98 percent of the Hutchinson city limits, Lester said.
AT&T invested more than $825 million in its Kansas wireless and wireline networks from over the past four years, and continues to expand its networks in 2014, adding the latest technology to existing towers in the region. It expects to complete its LTE rollout this year.
LTE technology offers lower latency than other wireless technologies, according to the company release, which means faster processing time to move data through a network, such as initiating a webpage or file download. Lower latency helps improve services like mobile gaming, two-way video calling and telemedicine.
LTE also uses the limited wireless spectrum more efficiently than other technologies, creating more space to carry data traffic and services and to deliver a better network experience, the company stated.
"We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Hutchinson responds to what customers want from their mobile experience...," said Nancy Garvey, vice president and general manager for AT&T's Greater Midwest Region, in a release. "Our mobile broadband network now covers about 98 percent of the state's population, and this latest upgrade in Hutchinson reflects our ongoing commitment to providing a compelling option for wireless customers."
