NCKU Announces UK-Taiwan Research Collaboration in Visual Culture

TAINAN, Taiwan --(Business Wire)--

Assistant Professor Ming Turner from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Institute of Creative Industries Design (ICID) and Dr. Beccy Kennedy from Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in the UK have been successful in applying for a research networking project from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) in the UK.

The project, which will run for 17 months, will start from 3 November 2014, said Turner.

She also said that it has been granted £32,050 (equivalent to 1.6 million Taiwanese dollars) from the AHRC.

The project is ed by two scholars in contemporary visual culture studies based in the UK and Taiwan, working in collaboration with other scholars, curators, artists and essential international sectors in the arts and culture.

Turner revealed, the political complexity and cultural hybridity of contemporary visual art in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan will be explored.

In this project, there will be several workshops held in the UK, Taiwan and Hong Kong, according to Turner, and an academic international conference will be staged at NCKU in the first half of 2015.

A summative academic conference will be held in early 2016 at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK.

This project follows previous collaboration between Turner and Kennedy, including an exhibition which they are curating to be held at the Imperial War Museum North for Asia triennial Manchester 2014.

Future plans include close cooperation between ICID and MMU in terms of collaboration on academic research and, hopefully, teacher and student exchange.
