Avaya Wireless LAN 9100 reduces network downtime costs by cleaning up maintenance window [ITWeb]

(ITWeb Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Avaya South Africa has announced the local availability of its new Wireless LAN (WLAN) 9100 Series. This latest release forms an integral part of Avaya's push to simplify network deployments and end the network waiting game.

This is achieved through Avaya Fabric Connect technology driving the advent of the fully Automated Campus (http://www.avaya.com/usa/about-avaya/newsroom/news-releases/2014/pr-140326), which now extends to the wireless edge with the introduction of this new series of Wireless LAN solutions. For companies in South Africa, this represents an effective way to dramatically reduce the fiscal losses experienced every year due to network downtime.

A recent international survey of mid- to large-sized organisations across America, Canada and the UK revealed that 90% of companies experienced negative effects from complex networks, including limiting business analysis, and lower employee and sales productivity.

This is according to Selvin Kristnen, MD South Africa, Avaya, who says that although the survey did not touch African countries, the challenges experienced by local businesses are mirrored by their international counterparts.

"Companies across the globe can wait an average of 27 days before making significant improvements to a business system due to corporate network complexities – with the majority of this time being spent waiting on maintenance windows," he says. "With another average of 10 changes anticipated per year, this equates to waiting times of up to nine months for improvements that will help companies grow." Supporting the next-generation WiFi standard (802.11ac), the WLAN 9100 Series can reduce end-user waiting time by offering faster gigabit WiFi throughput. The WLAN 9100 Application Control feature recognises over 1 000 of the most popular business and personal applications, and allows administrators to create policies to block, restrict and/or prioritise business-critical applications.

Avaya's networking portfolio can eliminate the need for maintenance windows required by the majority of traditional networks underlying businesses today. Avaya Fabric Connect automatically configures the distribution and core switches, so IT personnel need only configure edge devices. Avaya's Fabric Connect now extends to the new WLAN 9100 series for zero-touch provisioning of access points and edge-only provisioning of services.

"Companies are looking to IT departments to make them more competitive, but traditional networks can be too complex to keep up," says Kristnen. "By eliminating the need for maintenance windows, IT departments can save hours, if not days, and reduce the potential for errors that cause outages which impact business agility, revenues, and IT professionals' careers."
