Food Lion launches new marketing strategy [Star-News, Wilmington, N.C. :: ]
(Star-News (Wilmington, NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 20--Food Lion has remodeled all its stores in the Wilmington area as part of a new marketing strategy that it launched Wednesday.
The 28 stores in New Hanover, Pender, Brunswick and Columbus counties are the first chain-wide to receive the remodels, the Salisbury-based company said. Food Lion also opened one remodeled store in Elizabethtown and two in Kinston Wednesday.
The company marked the launch Wednesday with a ribbon cutting at its 1929 Oleander Drive store attended by its president, Beth Newlands Campbell.
It is giving away $10 gift cards to the first 50 customers at each of the locations every day through Saturday.
Food Lion said the remodeling adds thousands of new items, including a dedicated gluten-free section. The store has 200 items that are certified gluten-free, said spokeswoman Erin DeWaters.
Customers will see new decor, and will have faster checkouts with new registers and larger screens DeWaters said.
The store also has added changes in its deli-bakery section, offering meals for a family of four for about $10 from 4 to 7 p.m. daily.
The stores have new yellow signage marking three categories of sale items.
The chain last November said it had hired 87 new employees in the Wilmington area as a result of investments and changes to its stores.
The grocer also announced that it has donated 150,000 meals, or $31,000, to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina and 27 local feeding agencies in the Wilmington region to mark the launch.
