Eklavya helps crack major crimes in city [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "Police are making full use of Eklavya Software, introduced by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), Ahmedabad, to crack down on several antisocial elements. In fact, they have already solved a number of cases with the help of the system.

The details of over two crore vehicles like owner's name, address, vehicle number and engine number can be registered with the software. Also, it would automatically update information once a vehicle gets stolen.

Since the system was highly successful in Ahmedabad, the police have planned to expand it to four major cities of the state - like Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Gandhinagar - and some other places as well.

DCB launched the software a month ago and has already cracked around 75 cases of vehicle theft in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Police even recovered over 125 vehicles.

Police officials believe the software would help to crack a huge number of cases in other cities as well. On a preliminary basis, sub-inspectors would first be able to access the software, which would be followed by the SP-level cops and 'D' grade officials.

Created by head constable Dilip Thakor, the software is maintained by him. The main server has been kept at the DCB office at Gaekwad Haveli, which has a sufficient capacity to register mobile numbers. The software provides data to only registered numbers, which otherwise cannot be transferred through Bluetooth and other mobile applications.

According to sources, DCB officials were also trained in the software. Senior IPS officers in Gandhinagar have asked DCB officials to prepare a report and action plan to expand Eklavya.
