GPS system targeting pests [South Wales Evening Post (Wales)]

(South Wales Evening Post (Wales) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CARMARTHENSHIRE Council has adopted a new GPS tracking system to analyse fly-tipping trends and types of waste.

Fly-tipping Action Wales's FlyMapper system enables officers to photograph and plot incidents onto a GPS mapping system using a smartphone app, giving a better visual representation of the scale of the fly-tipping problem in that area. Officers can use the information in support of an authorisation to conduct surveillance at a hotspot and in a prosecution, helping to bring culprits to book.

Mike Roberts, of Carmarthenshire Council, said: "Various incidents have been mapped within the first month, and already benefits are apparent. The map illustrates the concentrations of incidents and over time will allow for targeted campaigns." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
