MP urges backing for Talking Bus campaign [Liverpool Echo (England)]

(Liverpool Echo (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A LABOUR MP has backed a "Talking Buses" campaign to make travelling by bus easier for people with sight loss.

Rosie Cooper attended a reception at the Houses of Parliament in support of the Guide Dogs charity, which wants to make sure all new buses have audio visual (AV) next stop announcements.

AV systems are only fitted to around one fifth of buses nationally, with the overwhelming majority in London.

The West Lancashire MP said: "The technology is proven to work and is hugely beneficial for blind and partially sighted people in giving them greater independence.

"Therefore, government should make this AV equipment a requirement on all new buses." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
