MTN Holds Second Career Fair in Accra [press release]

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) In line with its employee value proposition, Ghana's leading telecommunications company, Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) has embarked on a programme that seeks to empower the youth to meet the challenges of a dynamic world.

Dubbed "MTN Career Fair", the programme aimed at helping graduates and final year students in tertiary institutions to bridge the career guidance and counselling gap and assist them in their search for employment.

Under the programme, students and young school leavers will receive guidance on how to write compelling Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) and how to prepare for job interviews.

Registered participants will also have the opportunity, under the programme, to meet recruitment agencies and prospective employers for job interviews during andafter the fair.

The first MTN Career Fair took place in September, last year.

In an address to open the second Career Fair in Accra, yesterday, Mr Nod Ganson, General Manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN, said MTN was aware of the several interventions by both the private and public sectors, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other key organisations to bridge the gap between the employed and unemployed.

Mr Ganson said against that background, MTN's role, therefore, was to complement these efforts in a sustainable manner while psyching up and exposing the youth to job creation opportunities.

He said the forum was to afford the opportunity to think beyond getting a job and to consider the possibility of creating one's own job and becoming one's own manager, instead of searching for non-existing jobs.

He expressed the hope that the fair would equip participants, made up of both students and job seekers, with the relevant skills required to enhance their employability.

Mr Ganson commended the speakers at the forum for helping to unlock and hone the special qualities of students, graduates and job seekers as they embarked on a future full of opportunities.

Topics discussed at yesterday's Fair included 'Profiling adherence to best practice when loading on-line and what employers look for during job interviews;' 'Establishing successful businesses through partnerships;' and 'Talent management and the art of job creation.' The others were 'Coaching and mentoring the youth in job creation;' and 'Professional training courses and their benefits.' Copyright Government of Ghana.
