Queen's University Expert Comments on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KINGSTON, Ontario, Aug. 22 -- Queen's University issued the following news release: Queen's University marketing expert Monica LaBarge is available for comment on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

"I'm not a fan of this campaign - it has very little, if anything, to do with ALS. While it is no doubt raising some awareness of the disease among those who didn't know about it before and has been very financially lucrative for ALS charities, it seems that the majority of people may not be donating money or doing in depth research on the disease," says Dr. LaBarge. "Using peer pressure or trying to guilt someone into supporting a cause is ultimately not the best long term strategy for generating serious commitment to a cause like ALS." Dr. LaBarge has ongoing research projects in the areas of charitable giving and non-profit marketing.
