CEA Applauds Illinois Governor's Support for Uber and Lyft

ARLINGTON, Va. --(Business Wire)--

The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (News - Alert) (CEA)®, regarding Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn's veto of House Bill 4075, also known as "The Uber Bill," and House Bill 5331:

"We applaud Governor Quinn's decision to support innovation and competition, and give the people of Illinois the transportation choices they deserve. By recognizing the value of innovators such as Uber and Lyft, the governor is protecting existing jobs and creating new employment opportunities for the state. House Bills 4075 and 5331 were misguided attempts to protect entrenched taxi monopolies, which would have driven up transportation costs and hurt Illinois' economy.

"Innovative services like Uber and Lyft are transforming the way we get around, helping cities and states improve their transportation options, creating jobs and reducing the number of cars clogging the streets. We're glad Gov. Quinn recognizes that supporting innovation, providing greater consumer options and increasing opportunity are essential for the future economic growth of Illinois and our country."

The Innovation Movement unites those who believe innovation is critical to American global leadership and economic growth, supporting public policies that encourage and advance American business and shore p our economy for future generations.
