Advanced Placement, Woodbury-Style: In Accounting, 100 Percent of June Graduates Find Jobs; Graphic Design Grads Close Behind

LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)--

Nothing wrong with doing a stint as a barista, of course, but for two departments at Woodbury University, virtually no one will need to make that stop.

A bit more than two months after graduation, 100 percent of Woodbury's 2014 graduating class in Accounting is either working for a top firm, a major company or in graduate school. And 92 percent of the 2014 Graphic Design graduating class is now employed in the profession.

In accounting, 50 percent of 2014 graduates were placed in top accounting firms like Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers (News - Alert) and Moss Adams, among others. Another 25 percent of the class went directly into industry, working for such employers as the City of Los Angeles, Warner Bros., Disney (News - Alert) and the Internal Revenue Service. The remaining 25 percent have gone on to graduate school to study accounting, business or law. Design graduates have landed jobs throughout the graphic design industry, from entertainment studios and web companies, to design and media studios and in-house agencies.

Woodbury University's remarkable success in placing 2014 graduates is consistent with an emerging national trend, and then some. A spring survey from the National Associaton of Colleges and Employers projected that this year's college graduates would greet a job market more receptive than the one last year's class faced. Employers said they expected to hire 8.6 percent more graduates from the class of 2014 than initially planned - up from a 2.1 percent boost for the class of 2013. Even so, the two Woodbury departments raised the bar that much higher.

In the Accounting Department in Woodbury's School of Business, interim Chair Mauro Diaz echoed those sentiments. "Our students are talented, enthusiastic and, committed - traits that employers tend to recognize immediately," he said. "We're especially pleased by the speed at which the Class of 2014 entered the workforce. That's an encouraging sign for the economy as a well as a tribute to the University."

"I consistently heard from employers that Woodbury students are among the best and brightest, and that their portfolios are top-notch," said Sue Vessella, Chair of the Graphic Design program in Woodbury's School of Media, Culture and Design. "We are exceptionally proud of all of our graduates and their professional accomplishments."
