The Centers names Tim Cowart as CEO [Ocala Star-Banner, Fla. :: ]

(Ocala Star-Banner (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 27--The Centers' board of directors needed look no further than its own interim chief executive officer to fill the facility's top post.

On Monday, the board selected Tim Cowart to head the non-profit facility, which provides mental health, addiction treatment and child welfare services in Marion and Citrus counties.

The board had begun its search five months ago and narrowed the pool to three candidates, including Cowart.

Cowart had moved into the interim position after the untimely death on March 12 of former CEO, Charles Powell. Until recently, Cowart also continued his work as The Centers' vice president of operations and finance.

"The board is pleased to provide The Centers with this high caliber of leadership. Tim Cowart has industry knowledge, business experience, and demonstrated success that provides the board and staff with great confidence for the future," board president Gary Norman stated in a press release.

Cowart holds a master's degree in business administration from Webster University and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Florida.

"It is a great honor to have the opportunity to lead The Centers and the remarkable team of professionals that make up our organization," Cowart stated in the news release.

"The Centers has overcome significant adversity over the past year and our staff faced these challenges with strong resolve," Cowart wrote. "I am eager to continue the momentum and collective energy that has been generated over the past several months. I look forward to leading the organization into the future, providing exceptional care for our community by focusing on our mission to strengthen lives with compassionate healing." The agency employs 550 people and has a $30 million annual budget. The Centers has seven locations and serves about 17,000 clients annually.

The Centers has been awarded a three-year accreditation by CARF International, which is the maximum consecutive accreditation attainable. The Centers underwent an extensive on-site survey by CARF experts, which included a review of facilities, client charts, therapeutic services, and interviews with clients and families.
