Arts & Scraps Celebrates 25th Anniversary at Gala Dinner, October 10

DETROIT --(Business Wire)--

Arts & Scraps, a Detroit nonprofit organization, will celebrate its 25th anniversary of recycling to help children think, create and learn at a gala dinner at 6 p.m., Friday, October 10, at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit.

Corporate sponsors, foundations, volunteers and supporters will be honored at the strolling dinner and award ceremony. VIPs begin the event at 6 p.m. with the special exhibit "Ice Age Mammals." At 7 p.m., friends join the evening for a strolling dinner, dessert auction and awards program. At 9 p.m. afterglow guests will help end the silent auction and enjoy an IMAX movie and dancing. A cash bar features Dragonmead microbrews.

"Arts & Scraps' Gala Committee has been working for months to create a special tribute to the many people and companies that have made it possible to serve more than 2 million kids from all over Southeast Michigan," said Peg Upmeyer, executive director.

Since 1989, Arts & Scraps has recycled hundreds of tons of materials from Detroit-area companies, providing hands-on learning opportunities at schools and community events. They also operate a store and classroom on Harper Avenue on Detroit's eastside.

In addition, the Arts & Scraps Mobie travels throughout Southeast Michigan, with hands-on curriculum workshops and event activities. The colorful 26-foot bus is used extensively at community events and at schools, where children and adults can shop and learn about recycled materials.

Arts & Scraps has co-developed curriculum workshops for students on location with the Detroit Public School Office of Science. Other outreach programs include family workshops, activities at public and private events, and classroom STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) kits for public and private schools.

"Arts & Scraps' retail store has prices affordable to all, sold by the bag. ScrapVille's interactive learning stations challenge children to use creativity and solve problems," Upmeyer explained. "Birthday parties, field trips and volunteer opportunities can be scheduled at Arts & Scraps at the group's convenience. 'Superheroes' is the current theme in ScrapVille."

Advance gala costs are $75 for VIPs, $50 for friend's admission and $25 for afterglow. VIP tickets include VIP parking, special exhibit, reserved seats and filled commemorative glass. Reserved VIP tables of eight can be purchased for $525. Tickets purchased on the day of the gala are $80 for VIP seats and $55 for regular admission.

Corporate tables or sponsorships help support the evening and the programs at Arts & Scraps that serve 275,000 children each year. In turn, company logos will be featured throughout the event, in newsletters, website and social media.

Tickets, donations and sponsorships can be ordered by mail, with checks payable to Arts & Scraps, 16135 Harper Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48224. They also may be purchased securely at http://www.artsandscraps.org/products/25-gala?categorylayout=0.
