Strayer University Serves as Official Higher Education Sponsor of 3rd Annual "Festival PEOPLE en Español"
HERNDON, Va. --(Business Wire)--
Strayer University, a leading postsecondary institution for working
adults, is pleased to announce it will be the official higher education
sponsor of the 3rd Annual "Festival PEOPLE en Español," one
of the largest and most anticipated celebrations of Hispanic
entertainment, culture and community. This year's event, which features
Latino celebrities and newsmakers, as well as inspirational and
interactive activities for all ages, will take place in San Antonio,
Texas August 30-31.
In a recent study by the Pew (News - Alert) Research Center, U.S. Latinos ranked
education as an extremely important issue, considering it instrumental
in the development of all communities. As the festival's official
education sponsor, Strayer University aims to raise awareness about the
multiple paths to and definitions of success, as well as the role that
higher education plays in attaining that success.
Strayer University recently launched the Success Project, a year-long
initiative aimed at breaking down perceived barriers that can keep
individuals from succeeding in their personal and professional lives.
The initiative enhances support for working adults pursuing a college
degree through a new Success Coach program, whereby all Strayer
University students are assigned a personal success coach, who will
assist them with financial advice, goal setting, career advice, and
other skills. Activities also include a national partnership with
entertainer and author Steve Harvey, a four-part video series with
inspirational YouTube (News - Alert) channel SoulPancake, and a local success-focused
roadshow, among others.
"It is more important than ever before to raise a national conversation
about the meaning and pursuit of success," said Dr. Michael Plater,
president of Strayer University. "Working adults who decide that
education will help them to attain success in their lives may also be
balancing the demands of work and family while earning a college degree.
We want to help those individuals eliminate any doubts or fears they may
have about going back to school and know that they will be supported in
their academic journey through our Success Coach program."
During "Festival PEOPLE en Espaol," Strayer University will lead a
series of activities to inspire and empower participants to become
successful leaders in their workplace, home and community:
Yuriko Almonte, Strayer Success Coach, will be at the Strayer
University booth on Saturday, August 30 and
Sunday, August 31, sharing advice on time management, setting
and pursuing goals and tackling perceived barriers to goals.
Dr. Irene Zoppi-Rodriguez, business and education faculty member at
Strayer University, will take the main stage on Sunday,
August 31 to share her secrets to successful teamwork and help
participants identify their leadership style. She applies more
than four decades of military, academic and professional experience to
her teaching and currently serves as the first female chief of staff
in the U.S. Army Reserve in Puerto Rico.
Jorge Narvaez, "Reality Changers" YouTube sensation and his
daughters, Alexa and Eliana, will take the stage to perform on
Sunday, August 31. YouTube channel
which has more than 158 million views, was started by Narvaez, a young
father with the desire to share songs, stories, and skits with a focus
on family, community, art and music. The viral success has caught the
attention of Ryan Seacrest, Ellen DeGeneres, CNN, and "America's Got
Talent," among others. The Reality Changers name comes from the
Reality Changers Foundation, which Narvaez helped found in 2001 to
give inner-city students the academic, financial and emotional support
they need to go to college. As a first-generation graduate of both
high school and college, the Reality Changers program was a driving
force in Narvaez's own success.
Celebrating more than 120 years since its founding in Baltimore in 1892,
Strayer University offers relevant and rigorous academic programs to
working adults, first-generation college students and others who may not
have access to higher education, preparing them for success in today's
competitive job market. Strayer University graduates earn degrees in
programs ranging from business administration and accounting to
education and information systems.
