Propel Marketing Welcomes Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts Candidate, Steve Kerrigan

QUINCY, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

Propel Marketing welcomed Steve Kerrigan, Democratic Candidate for Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor, for a discussion on the campaign, the state's business climate, and how Massachusetts can retain its younger workforce.

A longtime aide to former U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, and former CEO of the Democratic National Convention Committee and Presidential Inaugural Committee, Kerrigan spoke about how the rise in social media and online marketing has helped reshape campaign strategies. He recalled spending hours handing out thousands of event leaflets in the early 1990s, and then watching a staffer in 2012 draw a crowd to an event simply by using micro-targeted digital display ads.

Mr. Kerrigan, who was joined by Propel Marketing President Peter Newton and GateHouse Media New England President Sean Burke, talked about the need to ensure that all of Massachusetts has the opportunity to grow economically. A key piece of this goal is to finish extending broadband and wireless phone service to all of Western Massachusetts.

"We have to make this happen," Kerrigan said.

Mr. Kerrigan discussed the need for a statewide competiveness council. He identified instances where the state needs to remove red tape that hinders businsses and revealed strategies to address the growing student loan debt.

During the informational meet and greet, Mr. Burke expressed how important political coverage is to the voters of New England.

"It is critical that local media companies, such as GateHouse Media and Propel Marketing, help to report on current issues so that residents of Massachusetts may make better, informed decisions," Mr. Burke said.

While introducing Kerrigan to Propel's 130 employees in attendance, Mr. Newton pointed out how Propel has grown into one of the nation's leading digital marketing firms, while retaining its focus on local engagement.

"Propel Marketing is an active member of local communities through volunteer and activity programs," Newton said. "Steve Kerrigan's visit is a great opportunity for our employees to engage with a civic leader and candidate for state office."

With the primaries approaching, Propel Marketing has uncovered a great need for digital services for political causes. The company has recently launched a political division to assist political strategists as digital doorknockers and get messages in front of a larger online audience. Propel Marketing just recently launched a website geared toward this sector, Propel Political.

Mr. Kerrigan is the current President of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund, and has worked for Senator Edward Kennedy, Attorney General Thomas Reilly, Mayor Thomas Menino, and former President Bill Clinton.
