Duo gags auditor's grandmother, maid [Bangalore] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BANGALORE: Two men, including the former car driver of a chartered accountant, gagged the latter's 88-year-old grandmother and maid before fleeing with 250 gm of gold and Rs 20 lakh in cash from a posh Brigade Gateway flat, North Bangalore, on Monday morning. Shripal Jain, an auditor and director of a chartered accountancy training institute in Malleswaram, found his 11th floor flat ransacked, when he returned on Monday evening. "Shripal found his house ransacked and valuables missing. Realizing that his grandmother Mohini Jain and maid Gauri were not to be seen, he checked the rooms and found them bound and their mouths gagged with cloth so they couldn't raise an alarm," police said. Shripal freed them and took them to the Subramanynagar police station to lodge a complaint. He told police the prime suspect was his car driver Maruthi, who had recently quit the job. Maruthi and an unidentified associate entered the house around 11am, gagged Mohini and Gauri, and fled with gold and cash kept inside a wardrobe. Police said the upmarket residential enclave behind Orion Mall is provided with ample security at the entrances, and regular cars are given swipe cards. "It seems the security guards didn't stop Maruthi as he was a familiar face here. No one else could have access to the flat except him, and he hadn't returned the access card to the apartment authorities, police added.
