(Times & Democrat (Orangeburg, SC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 30--South Carolina State University President Thomas J. Elzey has been invited to serve on the board of directors of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce. Elzey's two-year term begins Oct. 1.

The chamber is South Carolina's largest statewide broad-based business and industry trade association representing more than 18,000 businesses and more than 1 million employees.

"The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome South Carolina State University President Thomas Elzey to our board of directors. Throughout his career, Elzey has gained a reputation as a dynamic change agent and national leader in academia," said Otis Rawl, president and chief executive officer of the S.C. "His vast experience in education and finance will prove invaluable as he serves alongside business leaders," Rawl said.

The 50-member board of directors includes leaders in such industries as logistics, education, finance, law, communications, agriculture, manufacturing and engineering. Members are elected by the chamber membership.

"I am honored to join and work with business leaders who, although representing diverse industries in South Carolina, are committed to advancing the Palmetto State as global leader in economic growth, with the intent of ultimately improving the quality of life for all South Carolinians," Elzey said.
