AROUND TOWN: BBI launching UAS magazine [Grand Forks Herald :: ]

(Grand Forks Herald (ND) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 30--BBI International is launching a new monthly magazine focused on the emerging unmanned aerial systems industry.

BBI, based in downtown Grand Forks, already publishes magazines focused on the ethanol and biodiesel fuel industries, as well as one on the Bakken oil formation and the companies doing work there. The UAS Magazine launched its website last week, and its first print publication will be released in October.

John Nelson, BBI's marketing director, said they started seeing UAS come up more often in their other publications and during conferences. He added that Grand Forks is becoming a hub of the industry, thanks in part to the federal government's designation as one of six UAS test sites.

"Kind of like when we started (the Bakken Magazine), we said 'this is right in our backyard," Nelson said.

Nelson said the magazine will cater to UAS operators and those developing the technology going into them. Policy and regulation will also be part of the magazine's focus.

Nelson said the new magazine has added about three jobs to the company. He said they have 7,500 subscribers currently, with 25,000 subscribed to weekly email updates.

Thrifty White buying Medicap Thrifty White Pharmacy will purchase the Medicap Pharmacy on South Columbia Road in Grand Forks next month.

The new Thrifty White will keep the same hours as Medicap and offer the same services, with "many other services" being added in the near future, according to a letter posted in last Saturday's Herald. The current pharmacy team, along with owner Jeff Theige, will remain, the letter said.

The sale will officially happen after business hours on Sept. 9.

"Having served Grand Forks and the surrounding rural communities for 18.5 years, it is with much careful consideration that we have decided to sell our business and merge with Thrifty White Pharmacy," Jeff and Annie Theige wrote in the letter.

Jeff Theige deferred to the letter when contacted by phone earlier this week.

Thrifty White is an employee-owned chain based out of Plymouth, Minn. with 93 drug stores. It has locations in Grafton, Red Lake Falls, Thief River Falls, Crookston and Devils Lake.
