Head of Batelco's domestic unit resigns [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]

(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The chief executive of Bahrain Telecom's (Batelco) domestic business has stepped down after 40 years with the company, Reuters reported.

No reason has been given for Rashid Abdulla's departure who has been in the position since 2011. Group chief executive Alan Whelan will oversee the domestic division while the company searches for Abdulla's successor.

Whelan became group CEO in April, a year after Sheikh Mohamed bin Isa al-Khalifa stepped down.

Batelco has operations in 16 markets including Jordan, Kuwait and the Maldives, but its home market remains its most important, drawing 42% of revenue and 62% of profit in the first half of 2014.
