National Association of Professional Women Announces Jennifer L. Ms. Hardesty is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in information technology (IT). "I was studying mechanical engineering in college and halfway through I realized I really wasn't interested in becoming a mechanical engineer, so I became a computer science major," says Ms. Hardesty. Once she graduated, a family friend helped Ms. Hardesty find a job with the Navy Research Labs, which led to a programming job at Lockheed-Martin. Eventually, though, Ms. Hardesty realized her true calling lay in healthcare IT. "I really love the field. I feel like I'm giving back, like I have a connection to my mom who is a nurse," Ms. Hardesty explains. Recently, Ms. Hardesty decided to leave her full-time job at a hospital to "strike out on my own." She now works as an Interface Developer Consultant in the healthcare IT field. Ms. Hardesty brings more than 20 years experience in programming, system administration and technical support to each project she takes on. She is an expert in a wide variety of applications and operating systems and uses her well-honed skills when it comes to troubleshooting, problem solving and process improvement. In her new role, Ms. Hardesty is willing to travel around the country to consult in hospitals and medical facilities. Her ultimate goal is to work with a state-wide health information system. Also a talented author, Ms. Hardesty is currently working on a legal / mystery novel. In 1992, she was the first University of Alabama College of Engineering student to graduate with more than one minor. She has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with minors in mathematics and English.
