ConteXtream to Showcase Business Benefits of ContexNet at Intel Developer's Forum™

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

ConteXtream, a leading provider of carrier-grade network virtualization solutions, today announced they will be showcasing their award-winning distributed software-defined-networking (SDN) Fabric solution, ContexNet, at Intel Developer Forum 2014. ContexNet will be demonstrated on HP servers for virtualization of Gi-LAN services, providing network interconnectivity with subscriber-level granularity and visibility for service provider environments.

"Service providers need to provide more features and better quality of service at a time when revenue per user is not increasing as much and costs of introducing new services is quite high," said Anshu Agarwal, vice president of marketing at ConteXtream. "As a result, they must seek out ways to more efficiently manage network resources but also provide new and innovative service choices to the customers. We are very pleased to be working closely with HP in providing a platform that helps service providers meet this critical need."

ConteXtream's ContexNet is a carrier-grade distributed SDN fabric that leverages proven virtualization and grid computing technolgies to enable operators to accelerate revenue growth through more rapid testing and introduction of new services or features; utilize local and remote network resources on demand, and reduce CAPEX and OPEX (News - Alert) by automating network operations, ContexNet creates a single, distributed and scalable SDN domain, dynamically linking network functions by steering the right traffic flows to virtual functions in the right sequence. ContexNet is compliant with industry standard-based mechanisms such as OpenFlow, LISP and OpenStack which enable it to fully separate control from forwarding, location from identity, and orchestration from networking.

Services on the SGi/Gi interface that connects the evolved packet core (EPC) and packet data networks (PDN) are typically implemented on racks as middle-boxes; all the traffic ends up flowing through these boxes, which can be costly, hard to manage, update and modify. SDN and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) can optimize, simplify and enrich these services to:

  • Dynamically allocate network resources on a per subscriber/user basis
  • Automate provisioning of the traffic forwarding path through the service chain
  • Provide capabilities, such as load balancing, high availability, and monitoring to eliminate the need to have these capabilities duplicated in each Virtual Network Function (VNF)
  • Enable a multi-vendor environment with best-of-breed function providers and open source software to make them carrier grade for rapid new service deployment

"Our customers are looking for combined hardware-software solutions that not only bring the reliability, scalability and performance their networks require, but also enable them to introduce new features more quickly and lower costs," said Werner Schaefer (News - Alert), vice president, Network Functions Virtualization, HP. "Our work with ConteXtream is centered on making this a reality for the largest networks in the world, the service providers."

Intel (News - Alert) Developer Forum 2014 takes place from September 9 - 11 in San Francisco at the Moscone West Convention Center. ConteXtream will be demonstrating ContexNet on HP servers at the company's booth #922. Any media or analysts interested in seeing the demo and scheduling one-on-one time with ConteXtream should contact Lisette Rauwendaal at LisetteR@mcgrathpower.com or via phone at (408) 727-0351.
