BRIEF: Need organic milk at 2 a.m.? Fresh & Easy is open for business [The Orange County Register :: ]

(Orange County Register (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 05--El Segundo-based Fresh & Easy has expanded store hours in Southern California, with most locations now open 24 hours.

Roughly 75 of the chain's 167 stores in three states operate around-the-clock, including locations in Orange, Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles, Lakewood, Whittier and Fullerton. Stores open 24 hours are listed on the chain's website.

"The conversions have been very successful," chain spokesman Brendan Wonnacott said. "We are reaching whole new groups of shoppers and creating new opportunities to bring in products." Less than a year after being acquired by supermarket magnate Ron Burkle, Fresh & Easy continues to make major branding changes.

Besides expanding store hours, the small-format chain has rearranged shelving space and refrigerated aisles to emphasize organic and ready-to-eat meals near the front of the store.

In February, stores added Wild Oats products, marking a comeback for the popular line of organic and natural foods.

The brand is owned by Burkle. Today, stores have more than 100 items of Wild Oats Marketplace products -- from ready-to-eat breakfast foods to organic milk and eggs. -- Nancy Luna ___ (c)2014 The Orange County Register (Santa Ana, Calif.)
