Bus garage property exchange to come before Waterloo school board [Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Iowa :: ](Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (IA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 08--WATERLOO -- A property exchange is expected to be approved by the Board of Education on Monday that will allow redevelopment plans to go forward for a new bus garage complex. The board meets at 6 p.m. in the Education Service Center, 1516 Washington St. Title to the former city of Waterloo street department facilities at 1601 Black Hawk St. will be given to Waterloo Community Schools in exchange for the old Orange School property at Orange Road and Kimball Avenue. The district would demolish the former school and current bus garage on the 24-acre Orange site before the property is given to the city. In addition, Waterloo Schools would receive an easement for bus parking on adjacent Metropolitan Transit Authority property. The agreement was approved last week by the Waterloo City Council. The new bus complex would also include facilities at 1624 Black Hawk St., directly across the road from the city property. Space would be included in those facilities to house the district's information technology department as well. Last month, the board approved a $1.68 million contract with Cardinal Construction to renovate the facilities on both sides of the road. Work is expected to be completed during December so operations can be transferred to the new facilities over winter break. In other business, the board will acknowledge a donation of $3,054 from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for the Trees for Kids program. The money was used in May to purchase 25 trees and plant them on the new Orange Elementary School campus.
