Greenacres to vote on new cell tower [The Palm Beach Post, Fla. :: ]

(Palm Beach Post (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 08--A site plan and special exception application to build a 150-foot commercial cell phone tower within the city's Municipal Complex at 5800 Melaleuca Lane is scheduled for a vote at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

RG Towers, a telecommunications real estate development firm that specializes in wireless tower development, wants to build a tower with three carriers, each with up to three flush-mounted antenna arrays and one city radio antenna.

The proposal also includes ground equipment cabinets that would be housed in a new 20-x-20-foot lease area adjacent to a 1,000-square-foot future lease area for future carriers.

RG Towers would lease about 400-square-feet of ground area from the city until 2028, paying $43,233 annually with each five-year renewal term. The entire lease amount of $216,115 for the first five years will be due when the tenant gets a building permit for the tower and equipment, the city said.

The city's Land Development staff approved the site plan for the 19.5-acre site, 1,200 feet south of Melaleuca Lane behind the Public Works building. By a 3-1 vote, the Planning Commission also approved the application with 12 conditions, including that no ground equipment shall be taller than 6 feet and all antennas will be installed flush with the tower, with cables running to the antennas being concealed within the tower.

The monopole tower would be installed south of the municipal complex in between the parking lot and the Lake Worth Drainage District L-14 Canal, which the city said should minimize disruption.

In December, the council approved similar applications to build a 150-foot commercial cellphone tower inside Ira Van Bullock Park.
