Republican To Resign From Manchester Board Of Directors [The Hartford Courant :: ]

(Hartford Courant (CT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 11--MANCHESTER -- Susan Holmes, a Republican member of the board of directors, plans to resign from the board at the end of the month.

Holmes, a former member and chairwoman of the school board, said on Wednesday that she has to take on child care duties because of the health of a family member. She also said that she is finishing studies for her master's degree in public policy from Trinity College, and that her schedule conflicts with the board's Tuesday night meetings.

The Republican town committee will recommend a replacement. The agenda of the next board of directors meeting will include accepting Holmes' resignation and a possibly a vote on her replacement, said board minority leader Cheri Eckbreth (who married recently and changed her name from Pelletier).

Holmes, 57, was elected to the board in 2011 and re-elected to another two-year term in 2013. She also has served on the school board, including a stint as chairwoman beginning in 2000. Holmes was active in the Highland Park School PTA and a founding member of the East Side Livable Neighborhood Group.

"Susan brought a wealth of experience, especially in volunteerism, to the town," Eckbreth said.

Holmes also served on several board of directors subcommittees, Eckbreth said, and proved "a hard worker behind the scenes." .
