Citrix and Cisco UCS: Driving App and Desktop Virtualization Performance to New Heights

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 11 September 2014 Release date- 04092014 - Today, Cisco announced several innovations to their Unified Computing System (UCS) product line and highlighted their vision around key industry trends that dovetail nicely with the Citrix vision for the Mobile Workspace.

Among these were Mobility and Cloud Scale; two crucial components that are part of the Citrix core DNA and help drive our everyday thinking and overall strategy. Over our long partnership, Citrix and Cisco have been aligned on our vision to provide people with access to their workspace wherever they find themselves, on any device.

We also place a high priority on providing infrastructure for our partners and customers to create platforms that are future-proof, while we help them deal with the rapidly growing pace of change in their IT environments. Whether change is coming from the exploding number of end-user devices, rapid pace of underlying operating system updates or app and desktop migrations and upgrades, Cisco and Citrix are continuing to work together to deliver a combined platform that enables management, security and control for IT while freeing users to leverage the devices that make them the most productive wherever work finds them.

Citrix and Cisco have worked together for more than ten years to streamline application and desktop virtualization deployments, helping businesses become more efficient, secure and productive through our joint reference architectures (RAs) and Cisco Validated Designs (CVDs). Our collaboration increased with the introduction of the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) in 2009, as our engineers pooled their knowledge to provide customers with clear guidelines to ensure each XenApp and XenDesktop deployment delivered the optimal user experience and performance.

Cisco UCS innovation continues to accelerate to meet the infrastructure and computing demands required to deliver cloud-scale computing with the introduction of Cisco UCS M-Series Modular Servers, which promise unmatched operational efficiency for cloud service providers and enterprise customers and provide an ideal modular architecture for scaling infrastructure to meet demand. This Cloud Scale strategy is in complete alignment with our plans for Citrix Workspace Services where we will extend the Citrix 'anyness' concept to any cloud and leverage infrastructure for server OEM partners like Cisco.

We look forward to working closely with Cisco engineers as we test and fine-tune our XenApp and XenDesktop virtualization platforms combined with NetScaler and Citrix app orchestration tools to develop the designs and reference architectures that deliver the best, most reliable performance on these new systems.

For our Citrix Service Providers, we will build on our Citrix Service Provider (CSP) Reference Architecture to take advantage of the new performance, features and integration capabilities of the new Cisco UCS M-Series and C3160 Rack Servers to simplify administration and management across multiple data centers. We'll pool our resources to streamline the process of provisioning and on-boarding new users while making sure the system delivers the rich HDX mobile user experience people expect from Citrix.

As the pace of innovation continues to accelerate, we are excited to be in alignment with Cisco on strategic initiatives and look forward to working with Cisco to ensure our customers and partners have the reference architectures and validated designs to quickly roll out cloud-scale app and desktop virtualization built on the most advanced infrastructure available. When partners are aligned on strategy and vision, our customers win.

This will be an amazing journey.
