Medtronic Named One of the World's Leading Companies for Sustainability

(Thomson Reuters ONE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MINNEAPOLIS - Sept. 11, 2014 - Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) was recognized as one of the world's leading companies for sustainability with its ranking on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the fourth year in a row.

DJSI World analyzes companies on a variety of sustainability criteria, including economic performance, environmental stewardship and social responsibility. This adds to the recognition Medtronic received earlier this year through its continued inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series.

Medtronic's commitment to corporate citizenship is centered on creating value and working responsibly in all facets where our business intersects with society, and this commitment is highly aligned with the company's strategies of therapy innovation, globalization, and economic value. The company's corporate citizenship initiatives implement these strategies by addressing global access to healthcare, product quality and patient safety, ethical business practices, employee engagement and development, and environmental performance.

In the area of global access to healthcare, Healthy Heart for All (HHFA) in India is an example of a program created by Medtronic in partnership with local hospitals that has successfully increased patient access to cardiac therapies.

The program connects patients to the HHFA care network, which includes health hotlines, patient counselors, heart screenings, and other outreach activities.

Launched in 2011, HHFA is now available through 100 hospitals in 25 cities across India and an estimated 9,186 patients have received treatment through the program.

Medtronic also continues to be recognized by the FTSE4Good Index and Corporate Responsibility Magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens list, both announced earlier this year. Companies in the FTSE4Good Index Series have met stringent environmental, social and governance criteria, and are positioned to capitalize on the benefits of responsible business practices.
