Movers & Shakers: Guide Dogs for the Blind appoints new chief financial officer [The Marin Independent Journal, Novato, Calif. :: ]


(Marin Independent Journal (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 11--Guide Dogs for the Blind has appointed Cathy Martin as treasurer and chief financial officer of the San Rafael-based nonprofit.

Martin has more than 25 years of experience with financial management, business planning, corporate development, and equity and debt financing for the Humane Society of Silicon Valley. She also has 13 years of public accounting experience, culminating in partnership status at Coopers & Lybrand, an international accounting firm. She has a master's degree in business administration from the New York University Stern School of Business.



----Bank of Marin in Novato has been named one of the Bay Area's "Best Places to Work" by the North Bay Business Journal for the sixth consecutive year.

Russell Colombo, president and chief executive officer, said the award ranks Bank of Marin in the top 10 among companies with 100 to 500 employees. Companies participate in the process through an anonymous employee survey that measures how happy employees are with their employer.


----Jay Zlotnick has been appointed as director with Janssen & Associates, which provides professional executive recruiting for nonprofits in the Bay Area. Zlotnick has more than 35 years of experience in management with nonprofit organizations. Until mid-2008 he was executive director of Buckelew Programs, where he served for 30 years. He has been an interim executive director for several Bay Area agencies.

----California Bank & Trust has appointed Michael Kadel to the position of senior vice president and business center manager for the North Bay.

Kadel will work out of the San Rafael office. He will be responsible for managing high performance business banking teams and maintaining top commercial banking relationships for the North Bay.

Kadel previously served as regional manager for the Bank of Marin, where he oversaw five retail branches in the Marin area. He has served as president of both the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce and Marin Economic Forum.

----Community Venture Partners, a nonprofit formed by Mill Valley resident Bob Silvestri that assists community groups, has appointed Joan Bennett and William Clements to its board of directors.

Bennett is an attorney with her own law firm in San Francisco. She is past president of the College of Marin Foundation and has served on multiple Marin County boards and commissions.

Clements is a principal at Parallel Advisors LLC, an independent wealth management firm in San Francisco. He is a member of the Marin Conservation League and the Richardson Bay Audubon Center.

----Johnson & Daly Moving & Storage in San Rafael has joined Atlas Van Lines.

As an Atlas Van Lines agent, the company will continue to serve the North Bay area with its moving and storage services. It will simply have access to the resources of a major moving van line.
