Autumn planning at Butterwick House [Evening Gazette (UK)]

(Evening Gazette (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AS summer draws to a close and the children go back to school, the team at Butterwick House start making plans for more indoor activities. With shorter days looming we plan different treats for our young visitors both at the Hospice, and out and about on the Hospice bus. Favourite activities in the Hospice include painting and crafts in the messy room, story-telling in the multisensory room and baking in the family kitchen area. The soft play area is a big favourite for rolling around and having fun. The music corner is really popular when the children want to make lots of noise. The girls love to watch their favourite Disney classics on the big TV, and the boys love their computer games and challenge each other to friendly matches. The computers and their specialist software programmes are provided by our friends at the Life Lites Charity who help children's hospices to provide specialist IT equipment for life limited children. While the weather is still mild we can take the children out on the bus to special places they love to visit. Trips out for the Sibling Support Group are always popular. The Care Team plan days and weekend breaks for the youngsters so they can spend time together getting to know other children whose brothers and sisters come to Butterwick House. It is really helpful to these young people to know they are not the only ones with a very poorly sibling. Making friends with other children and young people like themselves offers them an opportunity to chat about shared challenges. The support of the Care Team at these special outings means children can also chat to their key worker about any worries or concerns they are experiencing. So it's all go at Butterwick House during the autumn - and then there's the plans for Christmas. Ladies, get your girlfriends together for the last big day out of the Summer. Butterwick Ladies Day is on Sunday, September 21, at Hardwick Hall from noon until 6pm. With top drawer entertainment from Brian McFadden and X Factor's, Joe Whelan plus a two course lunch and pamper stalls this is an excellent day out. Tickets are only Pounds 36.
