Ford City in market for new accountant soon [The Leader Times, Kittanning, Pa. :: ](Leader-Times (Kittanning, PA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 12--Ford City Council plans to replace the borough's accountant of 15 years. Certified Public Accountant Susan Lasher Thompson of Butler is moving out of state, officials say. Council expects Thompson to work through the end of the year, or until a replacement is found, interim Borough Manager Eden Ratliff said. Thompson offered to work with the borough for $1,100 a month instead of the $1,700 she made working weekly from the borough office. She offered to work from home starting in October. Council is working out the details of replacing Thompson, Ratliff said. Those include how long it will be until they advertise for a replacement and how financial work will be distributed. "There are details they need to figure out amongst themselves," he said. "They need to figure out what role the manager is going to play, and how the internal controls are going to be set up." Thompson proposed using a remote connection, allowing her to access accounting information off site. In a July 17 letter to Council President Kathy Bartuccio, Thompson proposed preparing monthly statements, monitoring financial records and working with the borough's finance committee on the annual budget remotely. Some expressed concern at Monday night's council meeting about replacing Thompson too close to the end of the year, when the 2014 books would be closed out. "I think it's going to be hard for a new accountant to come in for the last two months," said resident Lou Vergari, a former councilman.
