(Grimsby Telegraph (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) YOUNGSTERS from Grimsby and nearby areas who have that extra special star quality are being invited to the Grimsby Auditorium to audition for the Christmas pantomime.

This year's spectacular show will be the much-loved tale of Jack And The Beanstalk, starring Julie Peasgood, who is back by popular demand to play the Queen of Merrydale after making her pantomime debut as the Good Fairy Azuriel in last year's Sleeping Beauty.

Alongside her is Emmerdale and The Voice star Kelsey-Beth Crossley as her daughter, Princess Tamara, with Bruce James donning a dress as Dame Trot, Daniel Whitley playing Simple Simon, Mary Viscomi as the hero Jack and Natasha Cottriall as the Fairy.

Now the venue are on the lookout for some talented young performers, who are full of beans, to join the cast as the junior chorus.

Children between the ages of nine and 16 are being invited to tread the boards and show off their fancy footwork and audition at the Auditorium on Wednesday, September 17, at 4pm for a 4.30pm start.

Last year saw one of the country's top pantomime producers, Imagine Theatre, putting on the pantomime, in Cromwell Road, for the first time and the show received great feedback from both audience members and critics.

Steve Boden, managing director of Imagine Theatre, believes their ethos of providing a top quality pantomime with a local feel is largely responsible for this.

He said: "The open auditions for the children are a great way of getting the local community involved in the production and it's always a lot of fun but also a real challenge as we see so much talent.

"We are proud of the fact we are able to offer all local children the opportunity to perform in a professional production as they can learn such a lot from the experience.

"We are looking for children with the X Factor, that little something special that makes them stand out from the crowd.

"They need to be bubbly, confident and great dancers who are prepared to work hard as well as having lots of fun." Preparations for this year's show are already in full swing, so make sure you book your tickets to avoid missing out on the best show in town come Christmas time.

Actress Julie Peasgood said: "I am delighted to be back in Grimsby; we had such a warm response from the audiences last year I can't wait to get back up on the stage.

"Plus, the best fish and chips anywhere can be found in Grimsby." Mary Viscomi, who will play Jack, said: "I love playing principal boy as it is so different to anything else; I love the shorts and boots and all the thigh slapping, and I get to have a sword as well this year and fight a giant." Claire Williams, manager of Grimsby Auditorium, added: "Panto season is the busiest, craziest and most fun time of the year for us.

"This will be Imagine Theatre's second year here producing pantomime and after such a fabulous show last year. We can't wait to see what they have in store this year." If you are a budding star then get yourself to the open auditions next week because you may be taking to the stage in professional pantomime watched by hundreds.

JOIN THE Jack And The Beanstalk runs from Friday, December 12 to Sunday, December 28.
