BRIEF: Crow Creek floodgate project secures $150,000 [American News, Aberdeen, S.D.]

(Aberdeen American News (SD) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 14--Brown County has secured $150,000 more in grant money to help install a new floodgate where Crow Creek meets the James River near Tacoma Park.

The James River Water Development District board of directors approved the contribution during a meeting in Aberdeen last week.

Brown County has been planning for several years to replace the aging existing structure because not all of the gates work properly. Replacement parts aren't available for the floodgate, which is more than 100 years old, according a news release from the JRWDD.

The new floodgate is expected to cost about $300,000 and will be installed next year. Previously, the state approved a $120,000 grant for the project.

In other action, the board approved its 2015 operations budget of $965,593, according to the release. That's the same level of funding as the past three years, according to the release. No written or public comments were received before the district approved its tax request, according to the release.
