Halcyon Software announces new monitoring solution for Linux on IBM Power Systems

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PETERBOROUGH, CAMBRIDGESHIRE, UK - Halcyon Software has announced the immediate availability of a new Linux on Power agent that runs on IBM Power Systems to ensure that the Linux operating system performs correctly. It also gives tighter control of 'mission-critical' applications running on Linux through automatic and continuous monitoring and management. Halcyon's new monitoring technology meets the requirements of organisations deploying Linux on IBM Power Systems to give greater scalability, reducing 'server sprawl' and infrastructure costs, particularly for large data centres and managed services providers (MSPs) with cloud-based offerings.

According to Carole Chandler, Sales and Marketing Director of Halcyon Software: "We have taken note of IBM's continued commitment to a multi-billion dollar investment in the Linux platform. Creating this Linux on Power agent ensures we are ready for the expected explosion in interest for new Linux and Open Source technologies as predicted by IBM in 2013. Our monitoring software will allow IBM Power Systems users to easily add Linux applications and standardise the monitoring and management of all infrastructure and IT processes without requiring Linux command line experience." The new Linux on Power agent enhances Halcyon Software's portfolio, which already includes a Linux on Intel agent, as a plug-in to Halcyon's Network Server Suite, the leading monitoring and automation software solution that supports Windows, AIX and Linux operating systems. It ensures maximum availability of critical servers, applications, processes, services and network devices to maintain business operations around the clock.

The software is shipped with the Halcyon Enterprise Console, which provides the IT team with a point and click, single view of all alerts across the whole enterprise, from any platform, including SNMP enabled devices. Automatic alerts can be also be sent to staff by email or SMS and a free Halcyon 'app' for Apple and Android smartphones or tablets provides a mobile view of the console enabling IT staff to remotely manage systems.

Organisations with resident Linux specialists will also benefit from this new agent which enables existing scripts to be embedded to run automatically via the powerful Script Monitor. This not only provides a way to effectively harness the power of these scripts but also reduces the dependence on individual members of staff to meet business continuity planning requirements.

Industry standard, 'best practice' rule-based templates are also included, enabling the software to be quickly and effectively deployed so that the recommended Power Linux metrics are monitored from day one.

Full integration into Halcyon Software's Advanced Reporting Suite allows a wide range of preconfigured reports to be generated for single and multi-platform environments. Web-based automated self-service reporting also enables the creation of customised reports to meet specific business requirements in seconds without requiring Linux expertise.

"The Linux on Power agent endorses Halcyon's position as a leading innovator and our commitment to delivering reliable and robust solutions for monitoring and managing critical IT systems on which business depends," continued Chandler. "It also ensures that our products continue to meet the evolving needs of IBM customers, managed services providers and data centres." About Halcyon Software Halcyon Software is a global leader in multi-platform systems management software that reduces the complexity of monitoring critical business systems, core applications and processes. This helps organisations to prevent business disruption, increase the efficiency of IT services and save costs. On average, Halcyon's solutions increase IT efficiency by 30 - 40 percent, delivering significant savings and a rapid return on investment - often in less than six months.

This is achieved in three ways: Monitoring: Halcyon's monitoring software keeps a vigilant watch on the most critical IT systems and core applications on which business depends. IT administrators receive early warnings of any potential problems or 'bottlenecks' before they affect the organisation.

Automating: Halcyon enables IT teams to set up 'self-corrective actions' to issues or problems to ensure that they never impact the business again. IT teams can also automate regular tasks, checks or jobs which would normally be undertaken manually. This frees up valuable resources, saves costs and helps to eliminate human error.

Reporting: Halcyon's cloud-based reporting solution proves to management that the IT team is achieving the service levels demanded by the business and flags any issues so they can be quickly resolved.

Halcyon Software's products support IBM Power Systems, including IBM i AIX, Linux and Windows. With regional offices in the UK, United States and Australia, Halcyon Software also has a network of partners and distributors supporting territories world-wide.
