WB, AfDB ready to support Tunisia in higher education and ICT [Agency Tunis Afrique Press]


(Agency Tunis Afrique Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TUNIS, (TAP) - Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) Taoufik Jelassi received, Tuesday morning, Mrs. Eileen Murray, World Bank (WB) Representative in Tunisia, and Jacob Kostler African Development Bank's (AfDB) Regional Director in charge of North Africa. The Minister said that the promotion of higher education quality and the development of its programmes are among the priorities of his department. "We have exerted significant efforts to promote the employability of higher education graduates, anchor the culture of entrepreneurship among young students and develop governance in universities to guarantee their neutrality and their openness onto their economic environment," he said. The Minister also spoke of the importance of the "2018 national strategic plan" which aims to make of Tunisia an international digital destination and a technological platform for African countries. This strategy will be implemented during the next five years and will include six themes, he added. For her part, Mrs. Murray expressed her admiration for the conference "Invest in Tunisia, Start-up Democracy" held on September 8 in Tunis which saw the participation of 30 countries and world economic organisations. She expressed, in this regard, the World Bank's support to the different projects put on the table during the conference, particularly those related to the national strategic plan of the ICT "Digital Tunisia 2018," the installation of broadband digital infrastructure and the programme of improving the quality of higher education. For his part, Jacob Kostler commended the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Higher Education Ministry to establish mechanisms of good governance and ensure the neutrality and independence of universities. He emphasised his determination to carry on co-ordination with the Tunisian ministerial department and carry out the different co-operation and partnership programmes related to the reform of the higher education sector and the promotion of ICT in Tunisia.
