SCAN Health Plan Arizona to Host Women's Health & Fitness Day Event on Sept. 24

PHOENIX --(Business Wire)--

SCAN Health Plan Arizona will join organizations across the country on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in hosting a special event just for women in honor of National Women's Health & Fitness Day. The event will include a presentation focused on osteoporosis, an exercise class for bone health and balance, free osteoporosis screenings and a healthy lunch.

"As a health plan focused on older adults, we've chosen to focus this event on osteoporosis, a common condition affecting older women," said Susan Cypert, SCAN's senior community resource specialist. "SCAN is pleased to be taking part in National Women's Health & Fitness Day and encouraging women of all ages to take charge of their health."

Participants will learn basic facts about osteoporosis, the importance of eating a healthy diet, and exercises for balance as well as weight-bearing exercises to improve bone strength.

The Wome's Health & Fitness Day event will be held at the SCAN Health Education Center, 1400 E. Southern Ave., Suite 735, in Tempe, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The event is free and open to SCAN members as well as the general public; however, space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Anyone interested in attending may call 855-901-7226, ext. 3420, to register.

An estimated 100,000 women of all ages will participate in local health and fitness events at more than 1,000 community locations across the country as part of the 13th Annual National Women's Health & Fitness Day. The annual event is held the last Wednesday in September as part of National Women's Health & Fitness Week celebrations throughout the United States.
