(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sweetwater County, Wyo. (PRWEB) September 18, 2014 Sweetwater County Travel and Tourism invites motorcycle enthusiasts to pack up their bikes and head for the open roads of Southwest Wyoming this fall. Here are some tips and treks to help make the jaunt to Sweetwater County one for the memory books.

Don't be Afraid to Ask for Directions! The new visitor's center in Green River (1155 W. Flaming Gorge Way) is a good starting point and offers information and resources, including maps and directions. A guided audio tour of Flaming Gorge Country and Flaming Gorge Lake is also available online to help you prepare for your trip. Smartphone users should download the Tour Sweetwater County Mobile App for information on-the-go about what to do, where to stay and more in Sweetwater County.

Scenic Drives Sweetwater County boasts wide-open vistas and views at every turn. Ramble across the same high deserts and rugged mountains that were once traversed by Native Americans, mountain men, pioneers and even outlaws. Scenic overlooks allow many opportunities to stretch your legs.

Highways 191 and 530 encircling Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area are designated state scenic byways. In addition to the notorious untamed horses of Wyoming, big game animals like moose, elk, deer, antelope and big-horn sheep also roam the national recreation area. The Flaming Gorge-Green River Basin Scenic Byway is accessible from the towns of Green River and Rock Springs via Interstate 80. The 160-mile loop dips into Utah and takes about three hours. The Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Tour north of Green River is only 24 miles long – about one hour of road time, depending on how many stops you make to check out the herds of wild horses.

Lodging & Camping There are plenty of places to bunk up in a local hotel for the night or you can pitch a tent at one of Sweetwater County's many campsites. Here are a few favorites. Buckboard Crossing Campground is located on the far northwest shore of the fabulous Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Buckboard Marina is nearby for boat rentals, fuel, fishing license, bait and groceries. For a desert experience, consider Firehole Canyon Campground, located 29 miles southwest of Rock Springs and adjacent to Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The campground offers beautiful views of the reservoir and surrounding red rock formations. The Mustang Ridge Campground sits at 6,300 feet on the Utah side of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

Dining & Nightlife After a long day on the road you'll want to refuel at one of Sweetwater County's delicious dining establishments. Bitter Creek Brewing is a casual brew pub located in the heart of downtown Rock Springs. Coyote Creek Steakhouse & Saloon is located in an historic building in downtown Rock Springs and offers a touch of elegance mixed with the Wild West. Cowboy Donuts is a great place in Rock Springs to feast on fresh-baked raised donuts, cake donuts, kolaches and a strong cup of coffee.
