CBA Announces New Board Leadership for 2015


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 -- The Consumer Bankers Association issued the following news release: The Consumer Bankers Association (CBA) is pleased to announce Tim Wennes, West Coast President and Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Markets for MUFG Union Bank, as Chairman of the Board of Directors, leading CBA's newly elected leadership for 2015. Wennes previously had been serving as Chair-Elect of the Board and as Chairman of CBA's Membership Council. In addition, Citi's Will Howle, President of U.S. Retail Banking, has been named Chair-Elect.



"CBA is the voice of retail banking and I am committed to its success. I look forward to focusing on the important issues facing our industry. I am proud to have been selected as this year's Chairman, and am committed to working with my fellow Board members to continue the tremendous growth and success of CBA," said Wennes.

Wennes succeeds Andy Harmening, Senior Executive Vice President and head of the Regional Banking Group at Bank of the West. Harmening, who has also served as CBA's Education Council Chairman, will remain on the Board as Immediate Past Chair. Wennes, Howle and Harmening will comprise CBA's Administrative Committee, which is charged with oversight of CBA's operations.


CBA's Board of Directors also approved two new members to the Board. Joining the Board are Todd Barnhart - PNC Bank and Thong Nguyen - Bank of America. CBA's 20-member board of senior retail banking executives guides the organization in its support of and advocacy for the retail banking industry, which provides banking services to America's consumers and small businesses. In addition, Susan Faulkner - Bank of America, Neil Hall - PNC Bank, and Chip Carlisle - Wells Fargo will be rotating off the board.

Biographical Information on CBA's new Leadership and Board Members: About Tim Wennes: Timothy H. Wennes is West Coast President and Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Markets for MUFG Union Bank, N.A. He began his banking career in 1989 and joined Union Bank in 2008. He was named Vice Chairman in 2010, and assumed the role of West Coast President in July 2014. In this capacity, Wennes represents MUFG Union Bank with Retail Banking and Wealth Markets customers, community leaders and elected officials on the West Coast.

Wennes oversees three of the bank's major businesses. Community Banking includes Branch Banking, with over 400 retail branch locations in California, Oregon and Washington; Private Banking, serving affluent clients; Business Banking, providing deposit and lending products to small and medium-sized businesses; and Consumer Deposits, which includes deposit portfolio management and product development for consumer and business deposits and credit card. Consumer Lending provides a full range of residential lending products, including jumbo and conforming loans, and has one of the largest mortgage portfolios in the U.S. Wealth Markets serves high net worth individuals, professional services firms, institutional clients and corporate and commercial clients, through Private Wealth Management; HighMark Capital Management, and UnionBanc Investment Services, LLC, a registered broker-dealer.

Wennes also oversees the bank's Corporate Social Responsibility division, which includes The MUFG Union Bank Foundation, Community Outreach, Environmental Stewardship, CRA Strategy & Operations, and Supplier Diversity.

Wennes is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He also earned an MBA degree in International Business from California State University, Fullerton.

About Will Howle: William Howle assumed the role of President of U.S. Retail Banking at Citi in April, 2014. He oversees the core segments, functions and products designed to serve the retail client base under one leader and team, simplifying execution and, in his words "putting clients first and foremost in our priorities." Previously, Howle was the President of Citi Commercial Bank in the U.S., where he oversaw one of the largest Commercial Banking markets in our business with more than 30,000 clients. He served concurrently as Chief Operating Officer of U.S. Consumer and Commercial Banking at Citi.

Howle has more than 25 years of experience in banking, including commercial and small business banking, deposit services, trust services and wealth management. Prior to joining Citi in December of 2010, Howle was a Managing Director and Head of Sales for Morgan Stanley's Private Bank, where he led a National Sales Team that supported 18,000 Financial Advisors. Previously, he spent time at Wachovia, originally starting its Private Advisory Group, a team of dedicated bankers who were focused on offering investment and banking strategies to affluent clients, later leading various business units, and eventually serving as Chief Operating Officer of Wachovia's Retail and Small Business Bank as an Executive Vice President. Howle began his career at Bank of America, working in its Commercial Banking group before running its Wealth Management Business in South Carolina and Georgia.

Howle graduated from Appalachian State University in 1988 with a BSBA.

About Todd Barnhart: Todd Barnhart is executive vice president and head of Branch Banking. He is responsible for leading PNC's network of nearly 3,000 retail bank branches in delivering an outstanding sales and service experience for its seven million consumer and small business customers. In addition, he has responsibility for PNC's Community Development Banking and Retail Operating Risk programs.

Barnhart joined PNC in September 2004 in Business Banking product management. Throughout his career with PNC, Barnhart has held a number of leadership positions across Deposit Products, Business Banking, Corporate Banking and Treasury Management. Prior to joining PNC, Barnhart served as senior vice president for sales and marketing in First Data Corporation's electronic payments group. He also spent several years at Accenture, where he focused on the use of technology to improve service and product delivery. Barnhart holds degrees in both Finance and Philosophy from Grove City College and a MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He also graduated with honors from the CBA Graduate School of Retail Bank Management.

About Thong Nguyen: Thong Nguyen is president of Bank of America's Retail Banking business and is a member of the company's executive management team. His team is responsible for providing a full range of financial products and services to 40 million customers.

Nguyen oversees Bank of America's coast-to-coast banking center and contact center network, including 16,000 ATMs and the nation's leading digital banking platform with over 30 million online and mobile users. In addition, Nguyen manages Consumer & Business Lending and Military Banking Overseas.

Previously, Nguyen was the Strategy, Sales and Operations executive for Consumer Banking at Bank of America. Prior to that he was BAC's Corporate Strategy, Planning and Development executive and was responsible for M&A/dispositions activities, New BAC (the bank's long-term initiative to simplify operations and reduce costs), the BAC Private Equity portfolio and the China Construction Bank Strategic Assistance effort.

Prior to his role in Corporate Strategy, Nguyen held various operational roles as West Division executive for U.S. Trust, overseeing the wealth management business; head of Fiduciary Solutions at U.S. Trust; head of Private Advisory Services at Global Private Banking; Global Corporate and Investment Banking business executive; and head of Global Wealth & Investment Management's Marketing and Business Development groups.

Before joining Bank of America, Nguyen worked at GE Capital and McKinsey & Co. Nguyen received a B.S. in mechanical engineering and an M.B.A. in finance and marketing from Columbia University. He serves on the board of Partnership with Children (formerly Big Sisters).
