Avaya Fabric Connect Boosts Simplicity and Scalability of IP Video Surveillance Deployments for Enterprises

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SANTA CLARA, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/24/14 -- A growing list of enterprises finds Fabric Connect delivering a superior performance for video surveillance. The Avaya IP Video Surveillance solution eliminates complexity for a more efficient, cost-effective security solution. Avaya to demonstrate the new benchmark for IP Video Surveillance set by Fabric Connect at ASIS 2014 Booth 4153 in Atlanta, GA September 29-October 2.

Avaya today announced that enterprises and organizations are discovering the enhanced simplicity and performance that its Fabric Connect technology delivers to their IP Video Surveillance system deployments. Customers as diverse as the Dubai World Trade Center, the city of Troy, MI and the Downtown Grand Las Vegas have recently adopted Avaya's innovative fabric technology as the architectural foundation of their networks to speed the rollout of new services and improve their network operations.

The need and responsibility of institutions, enterprises and organizations to protect citizens, guests, employees, property and information has dramatically increased the use of video surveillance. This growth, combined with the move to IP video surveillance, has inundated traditional networks with high-bandwidth video feeds that are at risk of being inoperable at the most critical times. In an attempt to 'band-aid' the issue, many organizations install separate, expensive networks just for video surveillance -- and often it's still not enough. Increasingly organizations are coming to the realization that the performance of their video surveillance is only as good as the underlying IP network.

Over the past decade, video surveillance has played an increasingly important role for the City of Troy in helping them maintain their enviable record as 'the safest city in Michigan.' However as they recently learned during the process of upgrading their system, the network plays a more important role than one may think. Faced with massive problems, they turned to Avaya Fabric Connect and the results were astounding. The whole system only took a few days to implement and through network upgrades Troy was able to effectively deploy HD cameras that gave them better visibility including being able to zoom in on vehicle license plates. The reliability of Avaya's always-on network means that officers won't miss footage containing key evidence to solve a crime.

Downtown Grand Las Vegas is one of the newest casinos in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas and security is a top priority to minimize fraud and ensure the safety of patrons. Their video surveillance system had to comply with stringent Gaming regulations. Fabric Connect provides the high performance infrastructure needed for IP video surveillance with the assurance of 'round the clock availability.

Dubai World Trade Center is one of the largest exhibition venues in the world and they turned to Avaya Fabric Connect to provide a network to support a range of different services. Instead of building out a separate surveillance network, they were able to leverage the virtualization capabilities of Avaya Fabric Connect, to secure and isolate their video surveillance traffic over the converged infrastructure. Not only were they able to eliminate their surveillance bandwidth problems, making it easier to comply with public safety requirements but they were also able to set up services in a fraction of the time that it used to take.

Designed to simplify any IP video surveillance deployment (analog, IP, hybrid, unicast, multicast, etc.), Avaya Fabric Connect eliminates network-wide provisioning practices and substitutes it with very simple end point provisioning with only one or two lines of command. Provision only the ports attached to the cameras and the monitoring stations / receivers -- without having to provision any of the core switches in between. This allows video surveillance networks to be deployed faster and easier than ever before -- with the ability to add, move and change cameras on the fly.

Quotes "After we installed the Avaya network, our massive video surveillance problems went away. Since then things have been essentially flawless. What we learned from our experience is that IP video and its demands on multicasting are not what IT and network administrators typically understand about multicasting. The realization was that placing video surveillance on a traditional network is like dumping Los Angeles-style traffic on a much smaller city's roads! Now that the video surveillance system is working so well and we know we have consistently high performance with always-on reliability through the Avaya network, we are actively looking at many more things we can do with it, our system has a level of scalability and flexibility that allows us to consider a multitude of new projects without concern about whether or not the system can handle them."Ryan Wolf, Research and Technology Administrator for the City of Troy Police Department "Downtown Grand Las Vegas is one of the newest resort and casino properties in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas. Security is a top priority to minimize fraud and ensure the safety of patrons. Our video surveillance system had to comply with stringent Gaming regulations and be available 24x7. When we chose the network, we selected an Avaya solution to address our surveillance challenges and deployed Avaya Fabric Connect. The network now operates the way that it's supposed to and allows us to focus on our guests."Charles Robinson, Director of Information Technology, Downtown Grand Las Vegas "Running video surveillance would sometimes cause problems for ordinary users, because of the bandwidth demands. Now with Avaya Fabric Connect-based network those problems are eliminated and it's much easier to comply with our public safety requirements."Galal El Tahan, Head of Infrastructure and Operations, Dubai World Trade Center "Since moving to Avaya Fabric Connect, we've saved at least 50-60% of provisioning time. Manual intervention is now virtually non-existent and we've dramatically decreased the level of troubleshooting required."Farid Farouq, Vice President of Information Technology, Dubai World Trade Center Additional ResourcesFact Sheet: Video Surveillance Made Easy with Avaya Podcast: Considerations for turning your network into a Fabric Whitepaper: The Network is Critical to Video Surveillance Case Studies Dubai World Trade Centre City of Troy Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games Tags: Avaya, Avaya Video Surveillance, Avaya Fabric Connect, shortest path bridging, VENA, SPB, networking, virtualization, fabric, data center, multiservice networking About AvayaAvaya is a global provider of business collaboration and communications solutions, providing unified communications, contact centers, networking and related services to companies of all sizes around the world.
