U.S. HealthWorks Announces Offer to Administer Flu Shots at Local Businesses

VALENCIA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Flu season is rapidly approaching and the universal message coming from anyone in the medical profession is - Get a flu shot now.

To help combat the flu earlier this year and avoid unwanted sick days, one national health care provider is offering businesses an old-fashioned method of delivering care - we'll come to you.

U.S. HealthWorks Medical Group, a leading operator of occupational healthcare and urgent care centers in the nation, said today it is offering to visit businesses on-site and provide flu vaccination shots to employees, starting this month.

"The timing, severity, and length of the flu season varies from one season to another. It's virtually impossible to predict what will happen this flu season," said Dr. Mark Pucek, Chief Medical Officer for U.S. HealthWorks. "Many people have good intentions, but delay getting a flu shot. We are pleased to offer this opportunity to make it as easy as possible to be vaccinated and decrease the likelihood of the flu spreading in the workplace."

Under the program, a U.S. HealthWorks professional will visit businesses and administer flu vaccinations ad also provide educational information on flu prevention. The on-site program is available to businesses providing vaccinations for 25 employees or more and in the vicinity of a U.S. HealthWorks location.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says a flu vaccine is needed every season for two reasons. First, the body's immune response from vaccination declines over time, so an annual vaccine is needed for optimal protection. Second, because flu viruses are constantly changing, the formulation of the flu vaccine is reviewed each year and sometimes updated to keep up with changing flu viruses.

For the best protection, everyone 6 months and older should get vaccinated annually. The CDC recommends everyone receive vaccination before October. Immunity develops 9-14 days after immunization.

U.S. HealthWorks has 218 centers and worksite locations in 19 states and employs more than 3,300 people. The centers offer occupational health services, as well as physical therapy, chiropractic and urgent care.
