The donation is part of a $150,000 grant Cox Communications and The James M. Cox Foundation provided to create seven new Cox Technology Centers across the nation. The technology centers are the centerpiece of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Club Tech program, which provides students access to curriculum to advance their computer literacy skills. These technology centers also help bridge the digital divide for children who have no access to a computer or Internet connection at home.

The William J. Oakes Branch, which is the oldest Boys & Girls Club building in Southern California, was opened in 1942. The Club was named after William J. Oakes, the Memorial Junior High School principal who was instrumental in getting the Boys Club established in San Diego. The branch serves more than 2,000 youth annually, and serves approximately 250 youth daily during the school year. A staggering 99% of the members come from low-income households and 47% are from single-family homes.

"The new Cox Tech Center will be a tremendous addition to the Branch," said BGCGSD President & CEO Danny Sherlock. "Providing our members with the computer skills and tools to be viable in today's world isof utmost importance to us achieving our priority outcome of academic success. We thank Cox Communications for its partnership and ongoing support of our youth in the technology field."

Each Boys & Girls Club Technology Center includes state-of-the-art computers, along with monitors, laptops, printers, docking stations, wireless routers, wireless cards, and proprietary Microsoft (News - Alert) and Club Tech software. Through the Club Tech suite of programs, youth learn the basics of business software, plus stay safe online and move on to advanced hardware and networking skills.

The James M. Cox Foundation supports organizations in locations where Cox Enterprises and its subsidiaries operate. The company's major subsidiaries are Cox Communications, Manheim, Cox Media Group and AutoTrader Group. Cox Enterprises' national consumer brands are AutoTrader.com, Kelley Blue Book, Savings.com and Valpak.
