BRIEF: Supervalu hit with second data breach, including four metro Cub Foods stores [Pioneer Press, St. Paul, Minn.]

(Saint Paul Pioneer Press (MN) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 29--Supervalu announced Monday that it was the victim of yet another customer payment card data breach -- this one affecting at least four Twin Cities Cub Foods stores.

The company said in a news release that it is investigating the breach, which likely began in late August and ended Sept. 21. This is the second such breach the company has suffered in recent months.

The four affected Twin Cities stores are in Hastings, Shakopee, Roseville and White Bear Lake.

Following the earlier breach, which began as early as June 22 and ended by July 17, Supervalu implemented "enhanced protective technology that we believe significantly limited the ability of this malware to capture payment card data and we will continue to make these investments going forward," Supervalu CEO Sam Duncan said in the news release.

The company said credit and debit card information may have been stolen, including card numbers, expiration dates and cardholders' names. The company did not say how many accounts may have been affected.
