BRIEF: Webcam atop Washington Monument offers views of D.C. [The News Tribune (Tacoma, Wash.)](News Tribune (Tacoma, WA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 01--In news from the other Washington, a new webcam has gone live, providing views from the top of the Washington Monument. The National Park Service has partnered with EarthCam to provide views from the highest point in Washington, D.C. EarthCam engineered a live streaming webcam to fit inside a pre-existing hole in the monument's pyramidion, 500 feet above the ground. You can find the webcam at http://www.earthcam.com/usa/dc/washingtonmonument. The camera gives a view of the World War II Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool. It also was installed in time to view Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada's facescape, "Out of Many, One." The month-long National Portrait Gallery exhibit required 2,000 tons of sand and 800 tons of soil to create, according to an EarthCam news release.
